Brief Biographical Detail
In July 2006 Emeritus Professor Boer was appointed as Co-Director (International), IUCN (World Conservation Union) Academy of Environmental Law. He will be based at the University of Ottawa for a period of two years. He will continue to teach in the Master of Environmental Law at the University of Sydney during this time in his position as Emeritus Professor in Environmental Law and as a member of the Australian Centre for Environmental Law, Sydney.
Formerly he was the Corrs Chambers Westgarth Professor of Environmental Law, Faculty of Law, University of Sydney (1992-1996), Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor, School of Law (1979-1991) and part-time Lecturer in Graduate School of the Environment, Macquarie University, Tutor and Lecturer, Department of Legal Studies, La Trobe University 1974-1979.
Emeritus Professor Boer teaches Environmental Law (undergraduate), International Environmental Law, Heritage Law, Natural Resources Law, International Trade and the Environment, Asian and Pacific Environmental Law and Comparative Environmental Law. He was a founding director of the Australian Centre for Environmental Law, Sydney.
He has served as a consultant to various intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations in the following countries: China, Federated States of Micronesia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nepal, New Caledonia, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, Vietnam and Samoa, as well as conducting research for the various departments of the Australian Federal Government.
Emeritus Professor Boer has published widely in the area of environmental and natural resources law and policy. The book, International Environmental Law in the Asia Pacific was co-authored with Professor Donald R Rothwell and Mr Ross Ramsay and published by Kluwer Law International in 1998. His latest work was co-authored with Graeme Wiffen, entitled Heritage Law in Australia, Oxford University Press 2006.
