Support Sydney Law School

To provide world class legal research and education, Sydney Law School relies on the generous participation and support of its alumni and the wider community.

Law provides a critical foundation for civil society and its sustainable development. At Sydney, we are preparing our graduates to make a difference, both locally and internationally.

The pride our benefactors take in Australia’s first law school and their farsighted vision for its future success, help to contribute a “margin of excellence” that is critical to our ability to compete with leading institutions around the world.

Thank you.

2008 Funding Priorities

1. Research and Teaching

- Launched in 2008, The Dean’s Research Fund provides the Faculty with resources to support research in critical and emerging areas of legal scholarship.

- Research Priorities

- Chairs and Lectureships

2. Scholarships

- Undergraduate Scholarships and Prizes

- Gifts to The Sydney Law School Mooting Fund will assist us to maintain our world-beating tradition in mooting competitions, on the national and international stage. You can designate your gift for the general fund or specify the team you wish to assist.

- The Peter Cameron Sydney Oxford Scholarship was established through gifts from the family, friends and colleagues of the late Peter Cameron BA ’73, LLB ’76, to promote further study in Law at the completion of a Bachelor of Laws.

- The Justice Peter Hely Memorial Scholarship was established through contributions from the family, friends and colleagues of the late Justice Peter Hely, LLB ’67, to promote postgraduate study in the fields of commercial law and equity.

3. Building

- The Law School Building Fund was established as the key funding priority for The Campaign for Sydney Law School (2005-2007). Funds raised during this period are helping to ensure that our new home at the heart of the University’s historic and beautiful main campus is a state-of-the-art facility for legal research and teaching.

  • New gifts to the Building Fund will enable the Faculty to make certain that sophisticated electronic equipment and other important features stay at the leading-edge of current possibilities.

Types of Support

1. Annual Gifts

- Added together, annual gifts - which can be made via the University Development Fund or direct to the Law School – are of significant strategic value. Unrestricted gifts are used to take advantage of new and emerging opportunities, identified as The Dean’s Priorities.

2. Major Gifts

- A major gift will make a critical difference to an area of legal scholarship or teaching that is of special importance to you. Each and every week, faculty are creating and imparting knowledge on human rights, child protection, global health, the environment… and many other crucial legal issues.

  • As well as making your donation outright, you can pledge to fulfil it over two or more years – helping you to plan your financial affairs while you demonstrate your confidence in Sydney Law School’s future.

3. Planned Gifts

- We’re delighted to discuss options for bequests, gifts of shares, assets or property. By informing us that you have made a provision to Sydney Law School in your Estate, not only do you help us to plan for the future – you make it possible for us to acknowledge and recognise your support in your lifetime, through membership of The Challis Society.

- What Legacy Will You Leave? Click here to view our new promotion campaign, endorsed by Sydney graduate and former Governor General of Australia Sir William Deane, BA ’51, LLB ’54, LLD ’90, AC, KBE.
