Programs and Courses
The ANJeL directors offer a number of courses on Japanese law at
their respective institutions.
- At the Australian National University, Kent
Anderson teaches Japanese Law and Society, a one-semester
course cross-listed in both the Faculty of Law and Facult of Asian
Studies, Accessing Japanese Law, a one-semester course
based on the co-directors teaching materials and including a video-negotiation
project between ANU and Aoyama Gakuin University students, and
Advanced Readings in Japanese Law, a language course
on Japanese legal materials.
- At the University of New South Wales, Leon
Wolff convenes the Asian
and Comparative Law stream, featuring a suite of fully-online,
interdisciplinary courses on Japanese law (Japanese Law in
Context, Japanese Law and Politics, Japanese Law
and Society, Japanese Law and the Economy, Tutorial
in Japanese Law and Language and Tutorial in Advanced Japanese
Law).

At the University of Sydney , Luke Nottage teaches Japanese Law , a one-semester elective to upper-year undergraduate law students; and one or two Japanese Law units at postgraduate level. Some or all of these courses may be taught in Japan in some years. He also teaches another undergraduate elective, International Commercial Transactions , revolving around a Japan-Australian case study.
ANJeL also teaches an
intensive course in Japan with Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto
Seminar in Japanese Law.
This course is available for credit through the various institutions.
Along with the Kyoto Seminar, ANJeL teaches an intensive course
in Australia for Japanese students, Canberra
Seminar in Australian Law. This course is available for credit
from various ANJeL partner institutions in Japan.
