The Sydney Law School is pleased to announce this new section of its website designed to post the latest employment notices and career information for students. The Law School will make regular updates to this section and provide the latest news in regard to employment opportunities, both casual and part-time, as well as details on professional seminars, visiting scholars and general career matters.
This section will also include the latest information on the Graduate Employment Program and Summer Clerkship Scheme, a brief summary of information relevant to students after their studies, and details on further postgraduate opportunities.

Can one read & speak english with excellent fluency under pressure?
Can one comprehend written & spoken english accurately under pressure?
Is one extremely extravert being always most comfortable talking with total strangers at all times?
Does one have access to a land line phone somewhere on a regular basis?
If one ansers yes to the above five questions one has met the
essential requirements for a volunteer work experience opportunity with a Solicitor assisting him to provide a low cost legal service to qualifying clients modelled on the Pro Bono Reduce Fee model, in Downing Centre Local Court Complex Liverpool Street Sydney between the hours of 8 a.m. & 4 p.m. on the following Fridays:
The First Friday of each month;
Whenever there is a fifth Friday in any month.
This Volunteer work experience opportunity is open to all students meeting the specified selection criteria appearing in this add from first year to final year who are studying anything.
No prior knowledge nor experience of any kind is required.
Successful applicants shall undertake the below listed duties in a group of four to six students selected from a roster of such students on each day under the direct personal supervision and direction of Robert Nixon, The sole practising Solicitor providing this volunteer opportunity in Downing Centre Local Court complex Liverpool Street Sydney:
Interview in detail potential clients taking detailed notes on all that one discovers in such interviews;
Explain in detail to each potential client the nature of the service
being offered to each of them;
Liase with court staff, the police prosecutor & the RTA
representative;
Take detailed notes while Robert Nixon, the solicitor providing this opportunity, interviews each actual client in detail;
Assist Robert Nixon, the Solicitor providing this service, to present each client's case to the magistrate by passing documents to Robert Nixon, the Solicitor providing this service, that Robert Nixon, the Solicitor providing this opportunity
nominates for this purpose;
Assist Robert Nixon, the solicitor providing this service, to prepare
any matter for hearing if and when a plea of not guilty is entered on behalf of such client by undertaking detailed legal research and other nominated tasks;
If & when an adjournment is granted for any reason, assist Robert Nixon, the solicitor providing this service, to fully prepare the matter for the next time it is due to be presented in court on a plea or mention basis or any other basis or reason by undertaking detailed legal research and other nominated tasks.

Chinese Government Scholarship for Study in China

The Chinese Government Scholarship Programme is a series of undergraduate, postgraduate and senior scholar scholarships set up by the Chinese Government to support cooperation and exchange between China and other countries in the fields of education, science, culture, economy and trade. The scholarships are formulated by the Ministry of Education in China (MOEC) and are administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), with the aim of strengthening mutual understanding and friendship.
Under this programme, applications are invited from Australian students (including Australian-born Chinese (ABC) students) wishing to undertake studies in China.
Applicants may choose one academic programme and indicate up to three preferred institutions of study, to be taken from the list of Chinese higher education institutions as designated by the MOEC. A list of these institutions can be found on the CSC website
For this round, the Chinese Government has specified that they wish to focus on five (5) Universities in China for research higher degree students. They are:
* Peking University
* Tsinghua University
* Beijing Normal University
* Fudan University
* Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Candidates are to nominate which university they most prefer in section 5 of the application form.

Casual Research Assistants @ Sydney Law School

The Sydney Law School is seeking suitably qualified candidates for casual Research Assistant positions for various research projects. You will benefit from being exposed to a prestigious research environment and working with leading academics and professionals.
We are seeking current undergraduate (in the later stages of their degree) or postgraduate law students, recent law graduates who would like to further develop interest in research, or individuals with relevant experience to register for the positions. Interested candidates must possess a positive attitude towards research and have good organisational skills. Most positions have flexible conditions. Suitable candidates will be contacted when positions become available.
