Graduation (Postgraduate)

The next Faculty of Law Graduation Ceremony will take place on Friday, 28 November 2008.

  • International coursework students should refer to the additional information below.
  • Research students will be notified of graduation on an individual basis.

Confirmation of award (coursework candidates)
If you are eligible to graduate, the Faculty will send you a letter confirming that you have satisfied the requirements of your degree or diploma. Students who complete their studies in December will receive their letter during March; students completing in July will receive their letter in late August. Please ensure that the Faculty has your current address details.

Graduation Ceremony
Faculty of Law ceremonies are held in May and November of each year. The University’s Graduations Office will send you details of the formal requirements of the ceremony approximately three weeks before the scheduled date.

Graduating in absentia
If you do not attend the ceremony to which you have been assigned, you will automatically graduate in absentia and your testamur and academic record will be mailed to your last known correspondence address. If you do not wish to attend a ceremony you may have your degree conferred earlier, at a monthly meeting of the University Senate. For this to happen you must advise the Graduations Office in writing after receiving your confirmation of award letter from the Faculty.

Alumni
The University wishes to maintain contact with its graduates. You will be sent a copy of the Sydney Law School Reports and the Sydney Alumni Magazine. For further information, please contact the Sydney Law School

Information for international students

Confirmation of award
After completing all course requirements, you will be sent an award letter confirming your completion. This letter will include the title of the course to be awarded, commencement and completion dates of the degree, the language of instruction, and ceremony information. If you complete all course requirements by July, you will receive an award letter by the end of August. If you complete by December, you will receive your letter in January. Please make certain the Law School has your current address details so that you receive this letter.

Returning Home Seminars
Returning Home Seminars are held at the end of each semester by the International Student Support Unit (ISSU) for international students finishing their studies. This seminar will help you prepare to leave Sydney and to return to your home country. You will have the opportunity to have your photo taken in academic dress, against the backdrop of the historic Main Quadrangle, as well as to celebrate your academic achievement at a morning tea. The ISSU organises for a professional photographer to take photos and subsidises part of the payment for academic dress hire.
