Exam seat numbers and location

Students require a seat number for all exams (except in-department exams). The seat number identifies a student’s own seat in the exam room and the location of the exam itself. Seat numbers can be obtained by logging-on to MyUni and accessing student self-administration from the MyAdmin tab. Seat numbers are also displayed outside the exam room.

Students are advised to check their seat number well-before the day of the exam!

Students with disabilities, medical conditions or injuries

Students with a disability, including a serious medical condition, or recent injury, which puts them at a disadvantage during exams should should register with Disability Services, Level 5, Jane Foss Russell Building, if they wish to have special exam adjustments made.

Registered students who require exam adjustments must inform Disability Services approximately 2 weeks after the Draft Examination Timetable is released. Disability Services will assess the request based on the student’s medical documentation.

Special Consideration & Reassessment

The policy in relation to Special Consideration and Reassessment can be found in the Faculty Handbook. A brief description is outlined below.

Special Consideration

An Application for Special Consideration can be submitted when a student has completed assessment (including an exam) but has been affected on the grounds of serious illness or misadventure.

An application on the grounds of serious illness must include a completed Professional Practitioner Certificate (see below). Occasional brief or trivial illness will not normally be regarded as sufficient reason to warrant special consideration. An application based on misadventure must be accompanied by well-attested supporting documentation (please see Faculty Handbook for further details).

Applications must be submitted to the Law School Information Desk. Combined Law students seeking special consideration regarding non-law units should contact the partner faculty.

In relation to exams, an Application for Special Consideration must be submitted within 3 days of the affected exam.

Reassessment

An Application for Re-assessment Exam can be submitted when a student has been unable to sit an exam due to serious illness or misadventure (or if the student attempted to sit the exam but was so seriously impaired by illness or misadventure that they were unable to complete the exam).

An application on the grounds of serious illness must include a completed Professional Practitioner Certificate (see below). For a reassessment to be granted, the practitioner must state expressly that the student was incapacitated to the extent that they were unable to sit the exam as a result of the diagnosed illness.

A re-assessment can only be approved if all other requirements of the unit of study have been completed, including regular attendance at class.

An Application for Reassessment Exam must be received at the Law School within 3 days of the affected exam.

Please note: an Application for Special Consideration will NOT be accepted for this purpose.

Supporting Documentation

Applications for Special Consideration and Reassessment Exam must include a Professional Practitioner Certificate which must:

a) be submitted and signed by the medical practitioner and indicate the dates on which the student sought attention;
b) certify unambiguously a specified illness or medical disability for a definite period; and
c) indicate the degree of incapacity and express a medical opinion as to the affect of the illness on the student’s ability to undertake an examination or complete an essay.

For further information on supporting documentation, please refer to the Faculty Handbook.
