Closing date for February Semester 2008: 31 October 2007

Closing date for July Semester 2008: 30 April 2008

The respective deadlines set the minimum time necessary for the application to be properly considered and for the necessary processing to take place. However, late applications may be considered.

Application processing fee

The University of Sydney requires intrernational applications to pay an Application Processing Fee (APF) for international applications. The APF is AUD$100, and is non-refundable. All international applications must adhere to the following in regards to the APF:

  • You must attach an Application Processing Fee of AUD$100 with your application.
  • Any applications received without the Application Processing Fee attached will not be processed.
  • You can pay your Application Processing Fee either by bank draft or credit card.
  • Payment must be submitted with a Payment Submission form. This form is available from the International Office website
  • Bank drafts must be made payable to The University of Sydney and must be in Australian Dollars.
  • Credit cards accepted (MasterCard and VISA only).

Exemptions:

The Application Processing Fee is not applicable in the following circumstances:

  • Sponsored students, eg. recipients of Australian Development Scholarships (AusAID) and other nominated Full Tuition Fee scholarships.
  • Exchange students, on a Student Exchange Program from one of our partner universities.
  • Study Abroad students.
  • Co-tutelle students (who study their degree at two partner institutions, gaining a degree from both universities
    upon graduation)

International applications - documentation required

  • Original or certified copies of academic transcripts of
    all previous qualifications
  • At least one academic or professional reference
  • Copy of passport/visa details

English language requirements

If you have undertaken your previous studies in a language other than English, you will need to demonstrate English language proficiency before admission is confirmed. The following tests and scores satisfy the Sydney Law School’s English language requirements for entry to postgraduate programs:

1. IELTS overall band score of 7.0, with no less than 6.0 in any component.

2. TOEFL
Paper Test: 600 plus Test of Written English (TWE) = 4.5
Computer-based TOEFL (CBT) = 250 plus a score of 4.5 in the Essay writing component
Internet-based TOEFL (IBT) = 100 with a minimum of 23 in the Writing section and a minimum of 22 in the other sections.
Scores more than two years old cannot be accepted.
