How to apply for Special Admission Entry into the Sydney LLB

Students can also apply for a special admission place into Combined Law or a special consideration place into Graduate Law. Such places are open to applicants who want to explain a record of exclusion or failure or for those who feel their results do not reflect their abilities due to circumstances beyond their control, such as prolonged illness.

Combined Law – The Broadway Scheme

Applicants for Combined Law should apply for a place in the University of Sydney’s Broadway Scheme, designed for students who are completing a senior secondary qualification, such as the NSW HSC, and who have suffered serious educational disadvantage(s) during their studies. Certain other types of applicants apart from current Year 12 students can also apply under the Broadway Scheme. This primarily includes applicants who completed their Year 12 qualification before the current year. Applicants should contact the Special Admissions Office for further information, ph: +61 2 9351 3615.

Successful applicants may receive a concession of up to five points from the normal UAI cut-offs for the University’s courses. This may vary from year to year. The cut-off in 2008 was 98.45.

You are not eligible to apply to the Broadway Scheme if you are currently undertaking or have previously attempted tertiary study. Tertiary study includes a recognised associate diploma, diploma, advanced diploma, degree or higher level studies, undertaken in Australia or overseas.

Applicants for the Broadway Scheme must apply directly to the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) using the Educational Access Schemes (EAS) application form, in addition to making the standard application for admission.

Graduate Law - Special Consideration

Special consideration entry into Graduate Law exists if you want to explain a record of exclusion or failure or if you gained entry to your first degree via Special Admission or feel you will be disadvantaged by the inclusion in your ranking of a very old, irrelevant HSC. It is also applicable if you believe misadventure, illness or other compelling circumstances have significantly affected your tertiary studies. You must submit your explanations in writing with any supporting documentary evidence by 24th December 2008 to:

The Cadigal Program

The Cadigal Program provides admission for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants. HSC students applying through Cadigal need to submit a special application form by the end of November. Academic preparation and motivation to study are important criteria. The UAI required to gain entry to the University's courses by students in this program is lower than normally required. Support is available throughout the student's degree including flexibililty with study load. Scholarships and accomodation support are also available.
