Peer Mentoring Program – Mentors

In 2009 SULS (Sydney University Law Society) and CLSS (Chinese Law Student Society) both ran mentoring programs in first semester. You may have been involved as a mentor/mentee with one of these programs or perhaps you were involved with one of the other facilities. The Law Faculty has been working with all these groups to design a program for 2010.

Your role as a mentor for 2010

As mentor you will have the opportunity to:

  • Attend a free (3 hour) training session that will provide you with the skills to be an effective mentor.
  • Receive a certificate that you can include in your resume that will outline your skills and experience gained in the program
  • Make new friends and widen your networks
  • Help new students settle into the University
  • Attend a range of social and academic events

What do I need to do to be part of the program?

As a mentor you will be required to:

  • Attend a three hour training session in February (TBA)
  • Attend the program launch where you will meet your mentees (TBA)
  • Work with 3-5 mentees to provide information and support on the faculty and University
  • Have at least two face-to-face meetings in the first five weeks of semester to share your knowledge and experience
  • Encourage your mentor to attend social and academic events
