Children
and the Law: What about Justice? |
Monday
28 April 1997
This
seminar examined topical juvenile justice issues in
the light of the New South Wales Ombudsman's Inquiry
into Juvenile Detention Centres, the Community Services
Commission Discussion Paper on the drift of children
in care into the juvenile justice system, and the Australian
Law Reform Commission draft report on children and the
legal process. The focus was on the over-representation
of state wards and children in care in the juvenile
justice system, the link between young people as victims
and as offenders, and the balance between the rights
of crime victims and the civil rights of young people.
